Creative Ideas for Vegetable Seed Starting Containers
Spring is here and we’re getting out our garden seeds to get them started so we’ll have little plants ready when the snow melts!
Those black garden nursery flats are pretty handy to start seeds in, but did you know you can use just about any container with drainage? You know, reduce, reuse, recycle!
If you’re creative and/or resourceful, the options are endless. You can use:
Milk or juice cartons
This website is brought to you without annoying ads because we can better live healthier lives without the influence of marketing. But running a high-traffic site is expensive. How can you help? If you purchase anything through the affiliate links on my site, your cost is the same, but I receive a small commission. Thank you!
Water bottles
(great idea because they’re self-watering)
Yogurt cups
Since they don’t come with lids this is about the only good way I can think of to reuse them.

Rolled up newspaper
(avoid colored ink)
Paper or plastic cups
Clear plastic containers or deli trays
These come with a built in plastic cover. A mini greenhouse!
An Olive Oil Can
Egg cartons
Or even the egg shells themselves!
Keep in mind that both egg cartons and eggshells are quite small. They work ok for starting tiny plants in, but the seedlings will definitely need to be transplanted very soon.
Or a Beautiful Planter Box
Etsy has some of the most beautiful planter boxes I have ever seen.
