Is date sugar a healthy food?
Yes. In fact, date sugar isn’t really even a sugar at all!
Date sugar is a whole food that is made from dried dates that have been finely ground. It has not been refined like regular sugar which means it still contains all of the fiber and disease-fighting antioxidants of the whole date.
Date sugar contains iron, B vitamins, fiber, and other nutrients.
How to use date sugar
Date sugar is a perfect whole-food sweetener for use in baked goods or hot cereals.
Can you use date sugar as a 1:1 substitute for regular sugar?
It depends. Date sugar does not melt or dissolve like regular granulated sugar, so it may leave tiny granules or grit in your hot liquid or other foods. In some recipes, you may notice. In others, you may not. For the best results, I suggest using a recipe that was created for date sugar, like my recipes below.

How to store date sugar
Date sugar should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It will stay good for up to 6 months. For longer storage, keep in the refrigerator or freezer.
Date sugar can be ever so slightly sticky so it may get stuck together in one big clump if allowed to sit for long. It can be broken up with a fork or in a food processor.
