Why you need one
My crock pot (slow cooker) is a tool that gets used nearly every day at my house. I love the convenience of putting ingredients in the crock the day before and having a hot meal ready and waiting for us the next day. A slow cooker brings out delicious flavor in foods due to the long, slow cooking process and is excellent for cooking beans and whole grains.
A slow cooker makes preparing a healthy breakfast so quick and easy. Prep your ingredients in the evening, put them in the slow cooker, and set it to cook all night. Wake up to a nourishing breakfast that’s ready to eat.
A crock pot also comes in handy for keeping foods warm while waiting for dinner. This is super convenient during the holidays – you can make your mashed potatoes ahead of time and they’ll stay warm in the crock pot while you tend to other things.
How to Choose the Right Slow Cooker
Slow cookers come with:
- different features
- in different sizes (very small [2-quart], medium [four- to six-quarts], large [eight-quarts], and very large [10-quart].
- with different controls (programmable digital controls and manual dial controls)
- in different shapes (round, oblong or rectangular, or oval)
- and in different price ranges (from a few dollars to very expensive).
