sliced bananas
Instructions
Place 1 cup milk, carob powder, and salt into a small slow cooker. (See note #2.) Whisk together until carob is dissolved and there are no lumps. Add remaining 2 cups milk.
Stir in oats.
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. (See note #3.)
When cereal is done, stir in date sugar, nut butter, chopped nuts, and vanilla. Stir cereal well to thicken.Serve hot topped with any or all of the optional toppings.
Notes
1. If your carob powder is lumpy, sift through a mesh strainer first to break them up as hard lumps do not dissolve well.2. This recipe is for a small (7-cup) slow cooker. Recipe may be adjusted for different size slow cookers.3. All slow cookers cook differently.
If your crock pot cooks hot, then you may find that your overnight cereal tends to burn. To prevent this, be sure to cook on low and use an appliance timer to turn the slow cooker on and off automatically.
If your hot cereal turns out too thin or too thick, adjust liquid amount accordingly the next time you prepare overnight hot cereal. See this post for troubleshooting crock pot cooking.
