When’s the last time you had a mango?

Oh, I would eat them every day if I could, but I usually can find the good ones in the store only in spring and summer.  So I was thrilled when the grocery store near me started carrying frozen mangoes!  This means I can eat mango smoothie in the dead of winter when I’m snuggled up to the wood stove wearing a fleece and a thick pair of cozy socks.

Actually, I’ve started buying mangoes in the diced and frozen variety even when fresh mangoes are in season, because a couple bags in the freezer means I can have mangoes without waiting for the one on my countertop to get ripe … and without even peeling or cutting it.  The ultimate in laziness convenience.

Speaking of easy, this recipe is.

1. Place ingredients in blender jar.
2. Push button.
3. Enjoy.

How healthy are mangoes?

In just one cup of mango, you get 25% of the vitamin A you need for the day and 76% of the vitamin C! And research suggests that the phytochemicals in mangoes may actually suppress fat cells – which can help with weight loss.

How healthy are bananas?

Not only do bananas add natural sweetness to this smoothie, but they also add fiber, potassium, and vitamin C. When included as part of a healthy diet, bananas have been shown to help with weight loss, protect against type 2 diabetes, strengthen the nervous system, and help with the production of white blood cells.

Mango Banana Smoothie

This naturally sweet smoothie is a delicious summertime treat and also doubles as a healthy sauce for Wonderful Waffles.

YIELD 1 delicious smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup full-fat, canned coconut milk
  • 1 medium very ripe banana - (I like to use a frozen banana, but you can use fresh one.)
  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in blender in order listed. A heavy-duty blender works best for this.
  • Blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the sweetest taste, be sure to use a banana that is very ripe.

    What a great and easy smoothie…lately we are doing Smoothies every day as there is so hot outside. So will have to buy the ingredients and I hope I get mango lol

      While I don’t have the calorie or sugar count for my recipes (you can read more about why I don’t have nutrition information for my recipes here), I can tell you that this smoothie has no refined sugars in it and is a super nutritious treat.

      As a weight loss consultant, my focus is to encourage people to eat whole, natural, unprocessed foods, and I tend to steer away from calorie counting. Almost all of my recipes fit in my weight loss program, and one of the benefits of the program is there’s no need to count calories or take too much time with nutrition labels.
