Adding bananas to smoothie ingredients makes a good smoothie,
but adding frozen bananas makes a fabulous smoothie! Frozen bananas give smoothies a scrumptiously rich and frosty texture.
You’ll need:
very ripe bananas
airtight freezer bags
1. Peel the bananas. Be sure they are very ripe (soft with lots of brown spots) or they will taste starchy and not very sweet in your smoothie.
2. Break or cut each banana into four or five pieces and place in a freezer bag.
3. Seal the bag, removing as much air from the bag as possible without smashing the bananas.
4. Place bag in freezer for at least 12 hours or until bananas are completely frozen and hard before using in smoothies. (Freezing time may take longer depending on your freezer.)
Notes:
1. Keep a bag or two of frozen bananas in the freezer so you always have some on hand for making sweet, frosty smoothies.
2. If you’re planning to use your bananas in smoothies and you don’t have a good blender, you may want to cut your bananas into small pieces before freezing them.
3. Use frozen bananas within a couple months.
